Look at Yourself

WHO (World Health Organisation) defines Health as a ''.....state of physical, mental and spiritual well-being...''. But, unfortunately, though we usually take care of our physical well-being, we seldom pay attention to our mental and spiritual well-being. A sick mind has resulted in a sharp rise in the number of cases of neurosis and psychosis and emergence of a 'me'-only civilization.

It is a result of the lack of a spiritual basis in one's life. We may have succeeded in maintaining a good physical shape pleasing to the sight but there is no doubt that the man (or woman) within that body is under too much of stress and may be even sick mentally and also extremely selfish because of lack of spirituality. We have to undertake urgent and necessary measures to restore the balance and harmony. Modern civilisation has forced us to have a holistic approach towards our lives and to the world at large also.

We have made an attempt to cultivate and realise a holistic approach in human lives and thus make everyone aware of the true nature of health and ultimately life itself. Our endeavour, though small, is to make you realise your true nature to make you realise the importance of undertaking the all-important journey towards the making of a perfect human being. Our physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing will create a healthy society the absence of which we feel quite often.

We have prescribed some practices here . We call it "KNOW THYSELF" Programme.
The practices are simple but their impact is tremendous and have the capacity to bring about a quantum change in your lives. Please try.


QUE. :1 WHAT IS 'KNOW THYSELF (KT)? I KNOW MYSELF VERY WELL.


Ans : Well, you might be knowing more about the individual (that is, you) than anybody else. You know how you look like, your habits, your likes and dislikes, your possessions various incidents in your life etc. But, are you really all these things ? Have you enquired about the nature of 'I' ? Everybody knows himself as 'I'. Who am 'I' ? You have to look at yourself, just be 'I' and nothing else to have the knowledge of your Self.
Every moment your mind, more specifically the thoughts arising in your mind is controlling you, directing you. You are just an endless chain of thoughts. If You don't know the nature of your thoughts, it can lead you to any destination-in any direction, you like it or not.
If you know your self, your mind will not play tricks.You are always aware of (and, in control of) yourself and your activities. You are peaceful. Nothing disturbs your peace.You are beyond worries, irritations and various pulls and pressures stress and strain of the modern world. When you know yourself you always act, never react; you are truthful, loving, caring, compassionate etc.


QUE. : 2. WHY WE SHOULD DO KT PROGRAMME ?

Ans. :
a) To know yourself. KT Programme directs your attention towards yourself.
b) Healthy body and healthy mind should go together. KT Programme cleanses your mind makes you aware of yourself only. Purity of mind is essential for good health.
c) To create good society-Society is what it's individual components are. People with healthy mind will constitute a good society.


QUE. : 3. I CAN'T SIT FOR MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES SILENTLY. I FEEL RESTLESS, WHY ?

Ans. : But, you must be sitting for hours together in your office or, classroom or, shop or, wherever you work, study, do jobs etc. You must be sitting in front of your T. V. or in a cinemahall or in a train etc. for longer periods of time. So, the problem is not that of sitting for a prolonged period of time.
The problem is that you can't sit in silence, without any thing to occupy your mind. You fear the nothingness within and so you are restless. This restlessness is a reaction to the situation where you are forced to sit in silence doing nothing. This habit of keeping the mind continuously occupied prevents you from knowing yourself. You have to break this habit to experience yourself. Twenty minutes is a reasonable beginning.


QUE. : 4. I AM DOING THE KT PRACTICE FOR SOME TIME BUT I CANNOT SEE RESULTS. WHY ?

Ans. :
a) Its a question relating to inner experiences and implementation of those experiences in daily life.
b) Do you think all your mental disturbances will be completely removed by doing meditation for 20 minutes every day ? Try to find out the causes of your disturbance. Identification and understanding of various problems helps in their total and permanent dissolution.
c) Decide for your self-what you will do and won't do, what-is within your capacity and capability. Ask yourself whether you are stretching yourself too much or not.
d) Have a balanced outlook in your life. Take life as it is and don't complain. Don't chase your desires. Lesser the requirement happier you are.
e) Remember, Twenty minutes of KT Programme (when perfectly done) will make you aware of yourself ; rest of the day has to be lived in that constant awareness of yourself. You have to give sufficient importance to KT Programme, do it sincerely with hundred percent attention, experience / realise yourself and ultimately lead your whole life accordingly, should be the ultimate objective.


QUE. : 5. WHY K. T. PROGRAMME IS COMPULSORY ?

Ans. :
a) We have told earlier that along with a healthy body an open and clear mind is also needed for a decent living. Every person should give some time exclusively to himself / herself to have total control over oneself.
Usually we do not find any time in our daily life to meditate and have even lost the urge to extricate ourselves from this never ending self defeating existence. Anything which is good for oneself must be done with lot of self determination and discipline, although the experience may not be smooth all the time and may even be painful to continue.
To overcome the impediment stated above we have to make the KT Programme compulsory in our daily workouts, so that gradually we pick up the habit of doing the meditation programe at our will and feel the benefit of doing it in our daily lives.
Needless to say that there must always be a first step and the experience of the first step may not always be perfect. One must persevere until perfection is experienced / realised.
b) You must turn your attention inwards to get revitalised / energised as you are spending energy / vitality by constant outwards attention in physical work. The source of yours (and, every man's) vital energy is within. Link-up with that infinite source and it will keep you and your body fresh, bubbling with energy, happy and contended. Also, the ageing process is subdued.


QUE. : 6. I AM A YOUNG MAN / WOMAN. THIS IS NOT THE AGE OF DOING MEDITATION DAILY !

Ans. : Today children are going to school at the age of 2/3 years to start learning about the world, to make them ready to face the rigours of life.
We are talking about the most important thing of your life i.e. You. Now, you decide the date and time of starting the most important action of your life.


QUE. : 7. I DO NOT HAVE ANY DISTURBANCES IN MY LIFE. I AM DOING WELL IN MY BUSINESS / STUDIES. I DO NOT NEED TO DO MEDITATION.

Ans. : Your Financial / Social / Marital status etc. have nothing to do with the need to know yourself. The urge to know oneself separates human beings from other animals. Only animals are contented when their basic physical requirements are fulfilled-Food, sleep, Security and Sex. A human being is supposed to know oneself and simultaneously this world. We human beings have a duty to perform, not only for ourselves but for the society also. When you know yourself you know others as well.
Are you aware of yourself ? Do you know what is going on inside yourself ?
We are talking about some practices which help you gain freedom from all impurities of life. You are constantly accumulating so many things in your mind from your daily living! Are you throwing out the impurities out of your mind ? Are you aware that no deposit of impurities are accumulated inside you ?
Know yourself, it is most essential step in your life irrespective of the fact whether you have materially achieved a lot in your life or not. You may have been born with a silver spoon in your mouth but it is certain that you will die leaving that silver spoon and every other thing behind.

ONLY THE KNOWLEDGE OF YOURSELF WILL BE WITH YOU FOREVER.
